Simplified Psychological ED: Are Foods Really The Culprit?
Erectile dysfunction (ED) causes difficulty in achieving or maintaining an erection during sex, and is sometimes caused by due to psychological factors. These factors can include stress, anxiety, depression, guilt, low self-esteem, relationship issues and losing your sex drive. Approximately 40% of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) cases are linked to psychogenic causes.
Testosterone and estrogen are essential hormones in both men and women, and an imbalance in these hormones can either increase or decrease your sex drive. Studies indicate that specific foods can greatly affect your hormone levels, so be mindful of what you eat.
1. Processed Foods Can cause Psychological ED
“A diet high in sugar is detrimental to your sex life,”. Consuming low-fiber, highly processed foods such as white bread, baked goods, chips, and sugar-sweetened beverages leads to chronic high blood sugar, which is a major factor in many sexual health issues. Actually, that’s true of any processed food. In fact, processing may remove the whole food of all its nutrients, including ones which boosts sex drive and libido. When whole wheat, for instance, is processed into white flour, it loses three-quarters of its zinc, a mineral important for the men sexual and fertility health. This loss of vital mineral leads to reduced sex drive, hence increases the chances of psychological ED.
“High sugar intake increases the risk of diabetes, resulting in ED and reduced testosterone,”. Men with type 2 diabetes often experience difficulty in achieving or maintaining an erection due to long-term high blood sugar, which damages nerves and blood vessel.
2. Chicken Nuggets, Buffalo Wings or Anything Deep Fried.
Fried foods, such as buffalo wings, fish and chips, fries or chicken nuggets, may be impossible to refuse, but they are also high in saturated fats and trans fatty acids. A large study of healthcare workers, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, has linked these fats to coronary artery disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. These conditions often lead to with sexual dysfunction. If your arteries are clogged, it will inevitably restrict blood flow to your sexual organs, hence cripple your pennis and sex performance.
3. High Sugar Foods Among The Causes of ED
There is sugar, lots of them, in every food we may eat, from the cup of coffee in the morning to the Coke in the middle of the night match.
Increased sugar levels in your bloodstream can negatively impact the gene responsible for regulating your sex hormones. Simple sugars like glucose and fructose are metabolized in the liver, where the excess is stored as fat. This fat buildup deactivates the sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) gene, leading to a significant decrease in SHBG protein levels. This protein is crucial for controlling your testosterone and estrogen levels.
4. Cold Beer, Good Wine and Soft Night.
It is no denies that alcohol can spice up the atmosphere and raise the mood for sex, but too much is a big no for a memorable night. Studies found that over-indulging in alcohol decreases sexual arousal and may make it more difficult to achieve an orgasm.
Too much alcohol can also damage liver function, which is in charge of metabolizing hormones. A damaged liver can convert androgens into oestrogens, which significantly reduce sex drive.
While a glass of good wine can spell Love, an extra one can causes Disaster. According to researchers, alcohol is a downer and can affect a man’s ability to get and maintain his erection. While alcohol affects the liver’s ability to get rid of excess oestrogen, beer is rich in phytoestrogens, which directly affects fertility. Don’t drink and drive, and drive can mean sex drive as well.
5. Red Meat that High In Fat.
Consuming excessive saturated fat from red meat and dairy can lead your body to produce more low-density lipoprotein (LDL cholesterol), raising the risk of heart disease. Dr. Comite explains that “arteriosclerosis (narrowing of the blood vessels) is a common cause of erectile dysfunction, and whatever affects blood flow to the heart, significantly affects the under part.
6. Processed Deli Meat
A cup of wine while tasting cheese, eating together with Parma, pancetta, mortadella and salami can be a perfect starter for a wonderful night, but the culprit is always in disguise.
Deli meats are significantly detrimental to good sex due to the high sodium content used to preserve them. Dr. Matthew notes that “processed deli meats have a very high level of salt and can lead to high blood pressure.” High blood pressure, in turn, is a factor in erectile dysfunction and lower libido.
